The Fundación Canal in Madrid is pleased to present “Roy Lichtenstein: Posters”. This collection, being exhibited for the first time in Spain brings together the most representative posters of the artist – a total of 76 – and offers an overview of the artist’s creative universe.
Roy Lichtenstein was one of the greatest exponents of American pop art. Alongside his contemporaries, such as Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana, Lichtenstein created a new artistic language by incorporating into his work aspects of everyday life, consumer society and mass culture. In relation to the idea of popularization of art, Lichtenstein used new mediums, considered until then as not being academic, for the development of his creations, as is the case of comics or advertisements.
In this exhibition, visitors not only experience how Lichtenstein promoted his own exhibitions in museums and art galleries, but also the announcement of events, publications or the promotion of significant social causes. All this is shared with art lovers as the posters are presented by the Fundación Canal in a unique way with the artwork hanging on fencing and construction panels which perfectly complement this wonderful urban venue.
